SERVICES which enable persons with disabilities to acquire the skills necessary for independent living. Engages in specific advocacy and systems change to remove physical and attitudinal barriers which prevent people with disabilities from living independently.
BARRIER REMOVAL AND INFORMATION CENTER offers consultations to consumers, builders, businesses and organizations to increase accessibility within the home and community. Modifications to homes include redesigning living areas, and installing outside ramps and grab bars. In addition, grant assistance is offered to income- and geographically-eligible persons with disabilities.
CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING services include information and referral, independent living skills training, financial benefits counseling, and awareness training for the general public and organizations regarding disability issues. In addition, the Center assists clients in the development and implementation of independent living plans in the following areas: home and financial management; social skills; sexuality; consumer and legal rights; peer counseling; equipment loan, repair and rental; and individual and systems advocacy.
MOBILITY EQUIPMENT Sales and Service provides sales and servicing of assistive equipment such as wheelchairs, scooters, batteries and TDD equipment.
MEDICAID WAIVER SERVICES COORDINATION FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES determines eligibility for recruiters, service providers, case management, and Medicaid Waiver services; assists consumers to develop a plan for in-home services to help eligible consumers to remain in their home; and coordinates needed services. Persons must be Medicaid eligible and meet nursing facility level of care and have care needs which could be met through waiver services at a cost that does not exceed the cap. In addition, persons must have received an explanation of nursing facility services and waiver services, and elect to receive the waiver services.
MOBILITY OPTIONS specializes in selling, customizing and servicing accessible vehicles and equipment for people with disabilities.
TRANSPORTATION COORDINATION SERVICES determines client eligibility for the City of Lincoln's special transportation services including Senior Saver, a discount for persons, 62 years or older, on regular bus routes; Go For Less, a discount for persons with disabilities on regular bus routes; the Handi-Van, which offers door-to-door transportation for persons unable to handle a fixed-route bus due to their disability; and the Taxi Coupon Program, which offers a reduced taxi fare for persons eligible for use of the Handi-Van. In addition, mediation is provided for StarTran and their customers regarding services. -

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES include Traditional Group Homes, Community Support Program, Supported Community Living Services
TRADITIONAL GROUP HOME offers training in self-help skills, household management and leisure-time skills; these programs integrate people into the community in the least restrictive environment; all individuals are encouraged to have an outside activity; group home sites are in Red Oak, Malvern, and Shenandoah
COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAM teaches independent living skills to persons living in their own apartment or home; individuals receive additional support services as needed such as transportation, personal shopping, meal planning, socialization, self-help skills, household management skills and money management
SUPPORTED COMMUNITY LIVING PROGRAM provides up to 24 hours of support to assist individuals with their daily needs
RESPITE CARE PROGRAM provides short-term relief in the absence of the family or caregiver, such as a vacation or a night out
